30A is part of the Emerald Coast here in Florida with neighboring cities just a few minutes away. Our neighbors in Fort Walton Beach host the annual Lucky Leprechaun 5K/10K each year that is the perfect mini-run for families to participate in. This event allows everyone to dress up as a leprechaun and walk or run in the race. Even the young children can get involved with the Lil’ Leprechaun 1-mile run that is great for kids. Regardless of if you run or walk the race, you will be able to have a fun family event just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Visit Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub
If you are looking for the best “home base” for your St. Patrick’s Day activities, look no further than Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub in Santa Rosa Beach. The adults will love the first chance they get to head over to the nearest golf course especially when the weather is so beautiful here in the spring. Luckily, 30A features a variety of local golf courses that will be just down the street from our vacation rentals. The Santa Rose Golf and Beach Club is a great 18-hole golf course and has been ranked as a top spot for Destin Magazine. You can enjoy the full 18-hole course or cut it short at 9 holes so can other outdoor activities later in the day.
Visit a Local State Park
During your festivities, make sure you visit one of the local state parks that are in the area. St. Andrews State Park was previously a military reservation. It is now a gorgeous park with plenty of dunes and clear water shorelines. This is a great spot to walk along the beach to see local seabirds and even other wildlife such as alligators. Camp Helen State Park features some of the larges dune lakes in Florida and is surrounded by Lake Powell. Eden Gardens State Park features the Historic Wesley Homestead that includes antique family heirlooms. No matter which park you visit, you will find a wonderful time.
